Three teenagers, aged between 12 and 13, have been arrested after fleeing police in a stolen car and then on foot.

A member of the public distracted the group who were allegedly breaking into parked vehicles with a crowbar on Beltany Drive in Flat Bush, and then called police about 4.20pm Tuesday.

Inspector Adam Pyne said the teens fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, drove through Redoubt Road, and were eventually stopped in Manurewa using spikes.

He said the group then ditched the car and fled on foot.

"Two of the passengers were taken into custody without incident, while the driver attempted to continue to evade police."

He was followed by the Eagle helicopter and was later arrested.

The three have been referred to Youth Aid.

Police are looking for two others who were involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
