Facebook post may cost worker's job

07:13 am on 8 May 2015

A freezing worker whose employer threatened to fire her because of a Facebook post is refusing to take it down.

Roberta Ratu works at AFFCO's Rangiuru plant, near Te Puke, which is currently in seasonal shutdown.

Staff have been embroiled in contract negotiations since 2013.

Ms Ratu posted a message on her local MP's Facebook page asking for help with the negotiations, but said she was surprised to receive a letter from her employer telling her the post breached the company's code of conduct, and could cost her her job.

Ms Ratu said the post did not include anything negative about the company and she maintained she had done nothing wrong.
