A US Senator pushing to extend the Northern Marianas-only transitional worker programme through a bill she co-authored is visiting Micronesia this week.
The bill is co-authored by CNMI Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan and Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, and proposed an extension of the programme for 10 years and an increased cap to 13,000.
Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski has been in Guam, the CNMI's Tinian and Saipan, and headed to Palau on Wednesday.
On Saipan the Senator, accompanied by Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan, met with the islands' leaders, led by Governor Ralph Torres.
Senator Murkowski said she is confident the bill will pass the U.S. Senate unanimously.
She also believed that the United States President Donald Trump would have considered enacting the legislation, if the U.S. Senate supported it unanimously.
