Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations drop, new data shows

The number of people in hospital with Covid-19 has dropped over the past week, new data shows.

More than 32,000 new cases have been reported in the last week, but numbers are down from the 43,000 cases the week before.

Seventy eight people have died with Covid-19 in the past week, a rise from the week before.

One of the dead was aged under 10.

The weekly toll is up from 64 recorded for the week before.

The Ministry of Health said hospitalisations have fallen, from more than 500, to just over 400 over the past week.

The seven-day rolling average of cases has dropped to 4600 cases down from 6000 a week ago.
