Mental health report to be prepared for man charged with Pātea murder

A man charged with murder in relation to a death in Pātea on Saturday has been granted interim name suppression following a brief appearance in the New Plymouth District Court.

The 34-year-old was not required to plea and was remanded in custody.

He will reappear in the High Court early next month.

The court ordered that a mental health report be prepared for the man.

Police were called to a family harm incident at Pātea address shortly before 9am Saturday and located a 60-year-old man with critical injuries.

He died at the scene.

A scene examination at the property was expected to conclude today.

Police would like to hear from anyone with information relevant to the incident who has not yet spoken to them.
