A group of teenagers have been arrested in Auckland for allegedly breaking into a shopping mall on the North Shore in the early hours of Tuesday.

Police were called to reports of a burglary at Silverdale Mall just after 4.30am, a spokesperson said.

Waitematā North Area Response Manager, Senior Sergeant Carl Fowlie, said a car police believe had been stolen was used to get into the mall.

The group were arrested a short distance away, Fowlie said.

Nobody was injured, Fowlie said, but "a lot of damage" was done to the mall.

The group of five, all aged between 12 and 16 have been referred to Youth Aid services.
