Paul Abbot was appointed chief executive of the district's tourism marketing agency last March and took up the job in July.

This March, he will be stepping down.

He relocated from Australia for the role, but border restrictions prevented his family from joining him as planned late last year.

Destination Queenstown's chairperson, Richard Thomas, said Abbot had made the right call for himself and his family.
