A Ministry of Health spokesperson said the pair have both been deregistered with the Medical Council and can no longer practise.

Both received infringement notices from the ministry which carry a $4000 fine for each one.

They say Napier surgeon Phil Macdonald has received two fines.

Dr Deepak Gupta in Dunedin has also been fined - for the third time.

Anyone who was treated by Dr Macdonald or Dr Gupta from late January onwards is urged to contact the Ministry of Health.
