Sean Buis, 28, from Mornington, in Dunedin, died last Thursday evening.

Police had been called to the scene on Eglinton Road in the same suburb about 7.30pm, after receiving reports of a man being assaulted and run over.

Buis died at the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nik Leigh said a large team was working on the investigation with police acknowledging that the victim's family and the community wanted answers.

"These investigations are complex and can take some time to ensure we cover all bases, however, we are working on a number of positive lines of enquiry."

Police were speaking to a large number of people and also wanted to speak to any other members of the public who had relevant information.

Anyone in the Eglinton Road area near Unity Park about 7.15-7.45pm on Thursday 21 July, or people with CCTV footage from a private or commercial property that might assist, was being asked to get in touch.

Police believed Buis's death was an isolated incident and there was not thought to be any ongoing risk to the wider community.

"We continue to support his family and keep them across what we are doing," Leigh said.

The inquiry team can be contacted by calling 105 or going online and reference the file number 220722/8806.
