Covid-19 update: 4400 new community cases, eight further deaths reported in New Zealand

New Zealand has recorded another 4400 new community cases today, with the seven-day rolling average falling from 6904 last week to 6779 today.

In today's statement, the Ministry of Health said there were eight deaths of people with Covid-19 reported and 371 people in hospital, including six in ICU.

The deaths include two people their 70s; three in their 80s and three aged over 90. Six were women and two were men.

Two were from the Auckland region; two from Hawke's Bay; one was from Taranaki, two were from Canterbury and one was from Nelson-Marlborough. The total number of deaths of people with Covid-19 in New Zealand is now 1229.

Today's new cases were in the Northland (104), Auckland (1325), Waikato (352), Bay of Plenty (131), Lakes (59), Hawke's Bay (132), MidCentral (146), Whanganui (54), Taranaki (104), Tairāwhiti (19), Wairarapa (38), Capital and Coast (429), Hutt Valley (185), Nelson Marlborough (161), Canterbury (676), South Canterbury (73), Southern (367) and West Coast (43) DHBs.

There were also 50 new cases identified at the border.

Eleven deaths of people with Covid-19 and another 6291 community cases were reported yesterday.

New Zealand has now recorded 1,190,406 cases of Covid-19.

There will be no Covid-19 information released tomorrow. Tuesday's numbers will include the figures from Monday.
