Australians in Fiji court over drugs and guns

Two Australians appeared in Fiji's Lautoka High Court today charged with unlawfully importing drugs and ammunition on their yacht in Denarau.

The couple are charged with one count of possession of illicit drugs as well as one count of failure to declare arms and ammunition to a customs officer.

The man is also independently charged with one count of importing illicit drugs.

The prosecution alleges he imported 12.9 kilograms of cocaine and the couple had 34.4 grams of methamphetamine as well as cocaine tablets.

The estimated value of the drugs in their possession is between $US9.5million and $US14 million.

The FBC reported the couple also failed to declare a pistol, a revolver and over 100 rounds of ammunition.

The couple's case will be called again next month.
