The Transport Agency has suspended another vehicle inspector from issuing warrants of fitness after it was found he was not correctly checking safety systems on vehicles.
Glenfield-based company North Harbour Brakes and Steering, and its vehicle inspector John Murdoch, have been immediately suspended from issuing warrants of fitness.
The agency found Mr Murdoch was not correctly checking safety systems on vehicles including brakes, seatbelts and lights - in one case, a vehicle was given a warrant despite extensive corrosion.
Mr Murdoch also passed his own car a WOF, even though the tinted overlays were non-compliant.
The Transport Agency has contacted 400 owners to get their vehicles re-checked as soon as possible.
The cost of a re-check will be covered by the Transport Agency, and vouchers will be sent out ot the affected vehicle owners.
