Police say one person was injured in a train derailment near Hamilton on Monday afternoon.
The train, carrying a load of containers through Waipa, near Hamilton, struck a vehicle on Monday about 4pm at a rail crossing.
Police said one person received minor to moderate injuries.
The wagons still attached to the rails have been removed, and KiwiRail says a crane will be in place by midday Tuesday to finish the job.
The derailed locomotive and multiple wagons are still blocking the line, but crews have already started repairing the track.
KiwiRail said it was working to reopen the North Island main trunk line as quickly as possible.
