Wellington: Motorists warned of delays after fatal crash

10:53 am on 18 November 2021

State Highway 1 north of Wellington has reopened after a fatal crash but long queues remain.

All northbound lanes and one southbound between Tawa and Porirua were shut after the early morning crash.

The Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said there are still significant delays going north, and drivers should take alternative routes on State Highway 2 and 58.

Police said one person had died in the crash, which occurred around 3.20am.

The Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are continuing.

A separate crash on SH1 before the Terrace Tunnel earlier blocked a lane, however it has now reopened to traffic.
