A union for non-teaching tertiary staff says the Manukau Institute of Technology is conducting a cost-saving review of two faculties that will result in significant job losses.
Tertiary Institutes Allied Staff Association Chief Executive Peter Joseph said employees at the faculties of education and social sciences and engineering and trades were told of the review yesterday.
He says about 50 full-time equivalent jobs could be cut, as both faculties are forecasting deficits of more than $3 million.
The union was concerned about the adequacy of the consultation period, since it ends on November the 4th, allowing only 14 working days for staff to consider the proposal.
