Manhunt after officer shot at by fleeing driver - police

Police say armed officers are searching for a person who shot at officers then fled, in Hamilton.

An officer on patrol tried to stop a vehicle travelling on Heaphy Terrace in the Hamilton suburb of Fairfield at about 9:20 last night, police said.

However, the driver did not stop and turned onto Oxford Street where a shot was fired from the vehicle, they said.

A scene examination was underway today on Oxford Street, and police said they were working on strong leads.
